A Beautiful Day in the Clouds

Victoria Andrew, Fall 2021

This game was set in my derive walk, and was based on the idea of a daily routine that somebody can have (mostly based on what I do) and how every day a slight difference can lead to a different group of things happening but will lead to the same outcome at the end of the day.

For the Oblique Strategy cards I used the following 5 cards, ‘Put in earplugs’ - I was having trouble coming up with an idea of what I wanted to do for the came, so I put in my headphones and listened to some music, and did some other things, like cleaning, to try and get an idea of what I wanted to do which helped a lot. ‘Twist the spine’ - Literally chose to twist my spine and take a break while working on the narrative of the game. ‘Left channel, right channel, center channel’ - While making the different paths for the character to go down, I ended up having a couple of different storylines - when I felt stuck with one I ended up going to work on a different one to hopefully help inspire the one that I was previously working on. ‘Go outside. Shut the door’ - I often have a habit of sitting down for hours on end to work on a project without taking a break, I was flipping through some of the oblique strategies cards, trying to get some inspiration while making my game. This card made me think about getting up to just go and do something else to give myself a break so I wouldn’t burn myself out. ‘Repetition is a form of change’ While making the game I found myself repeating a lot of the things that were happening, and with this card, I tried to use those moments of repetition to try and push myself to go somewhere new with the storyline.

Throughout the project, I have images that I found on Pinterest and the Instagram account @new_fork_city for the food pictures that fit in with the storyline.
I took some keywords throughout the project and used them in googlism to add to the story, I used ‘pizza’ in the ‘pizza’ page and added ‘pizza is the real deal’ to that page, the ‘sushi’ and ‘coffee’ and lastly the ‘matcha’ page.
Throughout random parts of the game, I used otter.ai to transcribe what I wanted to be on the page. While using it I noticed that for the most part, it got everything that I wanted it to say on correctly, with the exception of a couple of words. I used it on ‘wait in line’ ‘sushi’, ‘cute restaurant’, ‘start cooking’ and ‘doing the dishes’.

I used n+7 on a couple of different pages to alter the text, some of the pages that I put in ‘TV show on netflix’, ‘cute restaurant’ and ‘work that you need to get done’.
I used the Travesty Generator on the ‘place your order’ page along with the ‘facetime’ page.
With the anagram generator, I used it on ‘Start’ which resulted in ‘tarts’, ‘The End’ which I picked ‘dent eh’, and lastly, ‘Home Page’ which turned into ‘Mega Hope’.
Lastly, I used botnik to come up with my title of the game, which ended up being “A beautiful day in the clouds”.
